Our sights are firmly set on a sustainable energy future for all of us.

Through the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects, we are powering homes and industry across the globe and helping to reduce our footprint for future generations.

About Polpo

Polpo Investments is an Australian led company with a proven track record of originating, developing and delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects. Working with like-minded sustainability-driven partners across the globe, we bring our particular brand of agility and resourcefulness to develop high quality renewable energy projects.

Our success is built on more than 20 years’ combined experience and a 1+GW portfolio that includes two of Australia’s top performing operating solar farms. Our team has experience in guiding projects from greenfield development and construction through to operation. Projects in our portfolio are beneficiaries to one of the largest corporate PPAs in Australian history and are now owned by blue chip investment firms.

Our projects have made a significant impact to date:

Suntop Solar Farm and Gunnedah Solar Farm

Commencing in 2016, through a joint venture with Photon Energy NV (WSE: PEN) and later Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ: CSIQ) Polpo Investments established a 1GW portfolio of utility-scale solar projects in regional New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

From greenfield through to construction ready, we developed the 189 MWdc Suntop Solar Farm near Wellington in central northern NSW, and the 155 MWdc Gunnedah Solar Farm, west of Tamworth in the state’s north-west . These solar farms entered into corporate power purchase agreements (CPPAs) with multinational tech giant Amazon for a combined total of 165MW of output in 2020 – making it the largest-ever corporate PPA signed in Australia at that time.

Suntop Solar Farm was the largest solar farm commissioned in Australia in 2022, and Gunnedah Solar Farm was the 4th largest, together contributing over 30% of Australia’s newly installed utility scale solar capacity in 2022 (Clean Energy Australia Report 2023 by the Clean Energy Council).

In June 2022, Gunnedah was among Australia’s top performing utility scale solar assets, outperforming any other solar farm in the NSW. Together the farms have a combined capacity of 340+MW, generating more than 700,000 MWh a year, and avoiding more than 450,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually.

Attracting interest from major international energy players, in 2022 the projects were sold to CalEnergy Resources, a subsidiary of UK-based electrical distribution company Northern Powergrid Holdings owned by US investment titan Warren Buffet.
